So, with the beginning development of West Wars and the close-to-end development of Alley Avenger, I figured it’s time to make a pretty sweet logo for my game. I don’t typically find myself artistically capable, so I’ve been racking my brain on what cool, artistic thing I should add. A glimpse of inspiration came when browsing the forums over at Stack Exchange. Take a look at their icon for the SharePoint forums.
Lines drawn on the cube in seemingly random ways line up at a particular angle to form an S. How cool is that?! I’ve always been intrigued by logos that take a 3-dimensional approach to display a 2-dimensional design. Another case in point, the Gamecube start menu many of us have grown up viewing, has a smaller cube rolling around an even larger, invisible one.
Trying my hand at a similar design, I came up with the following:
Added bonus…When a cube perspective is orthogonal and from the corner, it ends up looking like a hexagon with 6 triangles inside of it, which is the whole premise behind West Wars! For the uninitiated, West Wars will be a 4X turn-based strategy that has 2 levels of tiling, the hexagon-based map anyone whose played Civilization 5 or Settler of Catan are familiar, and a triangle layout, dividing each hexagon into 6 sections that can be built upon.
The animation on the logo is tentative, but likely to be pretty similar to what I’ll have in the final design. Hope you guys like it! Thoughts?
